Dental Crown
HUNT VALLEY MD

Dental Crowns An Overview

A dental crown is like a “cap” that covers the tooth to provide protection and stability. It covers the entire tooth and is permanently bonded into place. They are stain and decay resistant and can last for many years. A dental crown is commonly used to repair a damaged or decayed tooth, support a root canal or to cap a dental implant. Dental crowns are a permanent dental restoration that can help to support the stability of the patient’s bite and overall oral health. Dental crowns can be used for a wide range of both oral health and cosmetic related concerns with lasting results.

Dr. Jonathan Silverman places a dental crown using several types of materials, depending on the location, purpose and your unique oral health needs or cosmetic goals. Patients who require a dental crown can have the restoration shaped and color matched to blend in with the adjacent teeth.

Dr. Silverman has over 25 years of experience providing cosmetic and restorative treatments and a state of the art Hunt Valley, MD dentist office. He can place a quality, lasting dental crown that will enhance your natural smile. Dr. Silverman helps patients restore the aesthetics and stability of their bite through personalized care, patient education and quality materials.

Dental Crowns What to Expect

Comprehensive Exam – Dr. Silverman will conduct a thorough examination of your overall dental health at his Hunt Valley, MD cosmetic dentistry office to determine if dental crowns are right for you. He will examine the teeth, gums, mouth, and jaw joints to diagnose your condition. After that, an individualized treatment plan will be prepared that addresses your health concerns as well as the cosmetic goals.

Tooth Preparation – Once the treatment plan is finalized, Dr. Silverman will prepare the tooth/teeth by removing a small amount of the natural tooth structure and by removing an old fillings or tooth crowns to accommodate the dental crown. Impressions will be taken of the tooth that is receiving the dental crown as well as the neighboring teeth to ensure proper fit and placement. In most cases, Dr. Silverman will use a temporary tooth crown to provide protection. The temporary tooth cap will be placed on the tooth while the final restoration is being fabricated at the dental laboratory.

Final Restoration – In about 2 to 3 weeks, you will return to our Hunt Valley, MD dentist office for the dental crown placement. Dr. Silverman will remove the temporary dental crown and attach the permanent dental crown, make any necessary adjustments and secure it for a permanent fit.
